Jaipur: Mohammad Azharuddin former Indian Cricket Team captain is representing congress from Tonk-Sawai Madhopur constituency of Rajasthan and has also been facing some troubles from congress party workers. In this protest, some of the party workers burnt the posters in Tonk and were holding the demonstration at Patel Circle on Wednesday. As per the sources, protestors are demanding the ticket to be given to a local party worker.
Similar opposition to Azharuddin’s candidature has been reported from other areas as well like Malpura and Sawai Madhopur. As per the calculations, Tonk-Sawai Madhopur has larger number of minority voters that include Gujjar and Meena community.
“There is no dearth of good local candidates including Muslims in our area. We don’t want any outsider to be imposed on us,” said Naimuddin, a Congress worker.
He specified that the Congress party should reassess its decision and present the ticket to a local candidate and not to an outsider. Another party worker stated that the party people are feeling deceived due to which no one is working with enthusiasm. According to the statement, if the ticket was offered to a local candidate then the entire scenario would have been different and party people would have given their contribution.
“We don’t want any parachute candidate. It will be really difficult for us to give our 100 percent in the case of Azhar,” said a party worker.
Azharuddin had challenged the last Lok Sabha polls in the year of 2009 from Moradabad in Uttar Pradesh. Despite all of these internal oppositions of party, Azhar is certain of making return to parliament for a second term.
“I was happy serving the Moradabad constituency and now the party wants me to shift to Sawai Madhopur and I dedicate myself to serving the people of the constitunecy,” he stated.
